Aallonmurtaja Towel Designs by Reeta Ek for Lapuan Kankurit
The Aallonmurtaja towels by Lapuan Kankurit are adorned with Reeta Ek’s calm and wavy two-tone pattern inspired by the ripples of the Baltic Sea. Made of 100% linen, the towel has been woven in Finland at the own weaving mill of Lapuan Kankurit.
With the Aallonmurtaja (Finnish for wave breaker) collection, Lapuan Kankurit participates in protecting the Baltic Sea: for every sold 95 x 180 cm towel, 12 € is donated for the Clean Baltic Sea projects by the John Nurminen Foundation. The products of the collection have a Clean Baltic Sea – Woven in Finland 2017 logo.

Reeta Ek (b.1979) is an artist, who holds a Master’s degree in textile art from the Aalto University in Helsinki. She has worked as a textile designer for companies like Marimekko, Nanso and Lapuan Kankurit. Ek finds inspiration for her work from things in everyday life, rhythm and colors. However, you can’t sit down and wait for the inspiration to come, but it evolves and grows by doing, and also through mistakes.” Reeta Ek won the Young Designer of the Year prize in September 2017.
