The Kontur Vase Collection by Turi Heisselberg Pedersen for Kähler
The Kontur vases from Kähler combine modern art and functionality in a new and exciting way. Choose the smallest Kontur vase for freshly picked wildflowers and small branches or let the sculptural vase catch the eye as an impressive stand-alone element.
The unique, minimalist form of the Kontur vases celebrates the union of modern and timeless design. The vases are enrobed in matte glazing, creating a stone-like surface and providing a fascinating contrast to the soft, fluid shape of the design. The Kontur collection is designed by artist Turi Heisselberg Pedersen to mark the occasion of Kähler’s 180th anniversary in 2020. The range is available in white and blue, containing 5 vases in different sizes and each with a distinctive expression.

Danish Ceramics Company Kähler
Kähler is a Danish ceramics company which for generations has created vases, dishes, pots and kitchenware, many of which have become collectors’ items and design icons. Kähler’s story began in 1839, when the Holstein potter Herman J. Kähler opened a small ceramics workshop in the city of Næstved. However, it was not until his son, Herman A. Kähler, took over the workshop in 1875 that the ceramics adventure gathered speed.
With production of international art ceramics, the groundwork was laid for one of the greatest successes in Danish ceramics history. With handicraft experience passed down from generation to generation and great insight into the versatile moulding potential of clay, Kähler has now been at the cutting edge of Danish ceramic art for more than one hundred years.
Kähler was family-run for four generations. During the years from the foundation of the Kähler workshop in 1893 to 1974, when the last generation of the Kähler family left the company, focus has been on following the trends of the time and adjusting to them. Since its foundation in 1839, Kähler has been showing its works of art at exhibitions and museums all over the world, and the vision is to restore Kähler as an internationally acclaimed ceramic workshop with a strong artistic inheritance.
Today, Kähler takes the best from Danish artistic ceramic heritage and interprets it in a contemporary light. The results are promising new ceramics with broad appeal in a timeless idiom, yet individually interpreted. One hundred years ago, highly respected artists such as Thorvald Bindesbøll, Svend Hammershøj and Kai Nielsen explored ceramics at Kähler. Today, Louise Campbell, Bjørn Poulsen and Jeanette List Amstrup carry on the tradition – with the ambition of bringing art to the people.
