In the ancient capital of Thailand, where the Lopburi and Chao Phraya rivers meet, a curved brick facade opens to reveal ‘Sala Ayutthaya’: a peaceful retreat just 90 minutes from Bangkok.
The boutique hotel looks over the calming river waters to Wat Phuttai Sawan; one of over 200 Buddhist temples that populate the UNESCO World Heritage Center, Ayutthaya. The exterior of the ‘Sala Ayutthaya’ has been designed as a homage to such sacred sites, its annular brick configuration mimics the walls of traditional temples. The interior is conversely contemporary, and while each of the 26 rooms has a different layout—some with river views, others, private plunge pools – all are spacious and feature high ceilings, white walls, and polished concrete floors.
